Youth Advisory Board

Youth Advisory Board is currently on hold and is not meeting regularly at this time.

Violence Free Minnesota’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB for short) meets monthly to work on campaigns, trainings, events, and other activities to prevent youth relationship abuse. If you or someone you know is between the ages of 14 -24 and interested in getting involved in violence prevention, please spread the word and apply today!

If I join YAB, what can I expect?

  •  Leadership development: Actively participate in Violence Free Minnesota’s programming and campaigns

  • Networking: Collaborate and meet other young leaders across the country who are equally passionate about youth leadership and preventing teen dating violence.

  • Events: Participate and lead the Violence Free Minnesota Youth Leadership Summit and create outreach and awareness events

  • Professional experience and reference: At the end of your term on the Youth Advisory Board, you will receive a letter of recommendation from Violence Free Minnesota.

Commitment

Youth Advisory Board members must be able to commit to serving on the board for 1 school year and work an average of 4 hours per month on YAB-related activities such as:

  • YAB meetings and youth outreach events

  • Social media participation and outreach

  • Provide input on youth projects, policies, campaigns, and materials

  • Attend the annual Youth Leadership Summit on a Saturday in February

Please reach out to Meggie Royer (mroyer@vfmn.org) if you have any questions

Prior Projects

Previously, YAB has led several projects, including:

  • Annual leadership summits for youth across the state. 2020’s Youth Leadership Summit, Healing Through Knowledge and Action, focused on privilege and oppression, poverty analyses, mental health and well-being, teen dating violence, healthy masculinity, and radical self-love and was a collaboration between YAB and Casa de Esperanza’s Youth Amig@s

  • A Real Love Is campaign and mobile art installation that has been brought into schools and to arts events across Minnesota, offering youth a chance to share what real love means to them

  • Advocacy efforts at Violence Free Minnesota’s previous Action Day events and rallies at the State Capitol, where several YAB members have shared their stories to empower other youth

  • A statewide teen essay contest spreading awareness about the prevalence of teen dating violence in Minnesota

  • Providing advocacy resources and information about healthy relationships at youth theater events
